Minutes for November 17, 2012
Meeting convened at 10:15AM
I.                 Debby Cohen called the meeting to order.
II.               Debbie Kassel read the minutes from last month’s meeting and they were accepted as read
III.             Treasurer’s report :Patty Hibsher
As of 11/17/2012 we have a balance of $15,842.54 in the account. $10,000.00 will be presented to Moffitt Cancer Center at our holiday luncheon. $1200-$1500 will be spent on the holiday luncheon.
IV.             No change in the membership numbers.
V.               Activities: Joy Rosen   
We will have the Holiday Luncheon on December 8th at noon. Menu choices are chicken marsala or vegetable lasagna. If you choose to be in the grab bag, spend $20-$25 and sign up. Nonmembers can come to the luncheon for a fee of $10.00.
VI.             Fund raising: Barbara Wax
The Walk for the Cure and Dance were very successful. We have $10,000 to give to Moffitt. Thanks to Marie Chandler and the committee.
Sandy Papa has arranged to have to representatives from Moffitt come to our Holiday Luncheon to receive our donation. We will try to get representatives from the newspapers to cover the story. Shelley and Addie will have an article ready by December 1.
VII.           Old Business
Marie Sigler and Grace Solow will be organizing this year’s Angel Tree.
VIII.         New Business
A:  Ballots will be handed out at the Holiday Luncheon to vote for the new board for the Women’s Club. If you are not going to the luncheon you can get a ballot from Patty Hibsher in person or you can get a ballot from Debby Cohen on line. Place your ballot in the purple box on the Women’s Club table.

A.     Dues will be $20 in January and $10 in June. This was voted on and approved.

C.     Michelle Schaefer lost her Dad if you wish to share condolences.
X.              We had our 50/50 raffle and the meeting adjourned at 11:00AM.

Meeting convened at 10:40 AM
I.       Debby  called the meeting to order.
II.     Minutes from last month’s meeting were read and accepted.
III.    Treasurer’s report: Patty Hibsher
As of 10/26/2012 we have  $13,279.97.  We took in over $3,000 for The Walk for the Cure. We collected $784 for The Victorian Grace Tea and we spent $784 for The Victorian Grace Tea. We made $230 on Tribute cards in October. We made $122 on pillow cases, $29 on the 50/50 and $117 from the National Mah  Jongg League donation.
IV.    Fund raising report: Barbara Wax
We are selling, cookbooks, tribute cards, and pledges for Walk for the Cure that will take place next week.
V.     Joy Rosen: Activities report
We had a successful “tea” with 28 people in attendance. The Holiday Luncheon will be our next activity on December 8th at noon. It will be a seated meal with plated service.
VI.    Old Business
A.     Marie Chandler: We have raised over $7,000 for the Walk for the Cure. There will be raffles for bottles of wine and 50/50 at the dance on November2.  Sign up for the Walk by giving Patty Hibsher money.
B.     Diane Rosenfeld: Tribute cards are $45 for ten or $5 for one. Call Diane Rosenfeld,
C.     813-938- 5505 or Penni Saperstone 813-938-1040 to order cards. Cards must be paid for in advance. They sold 92 cards.
D.     Joy Rosen: Holiday Luncheon.  Sign up for the luncheon. Sign up if you will participate in the grab bag. The committee has discussed the luncheon. It will be a sit down meal with 2 choices. Please sign up for your choice.  The sign up will be available at the November 17th Women’s Club meeting which will start at 10:00. If you will not be at the November meeting, the sign up will be at the  Women’s Club table near the coffee machine.
VII.  New Business
A.     Marie Sigler and Grace Solow will be organizing our Angel Tree. The tree is for the needy children of Our Lady of Guadalupe. This will be the 5th year we are doing the tree. The tree will be up on the Monday after Thanksgiving. Paper angels will be hung on the tree with the age and sex of a specific child. You take an angel  (or 2 or 3) off the tree and purchase an appropriate gift of clothing, toy or gift card. Please spend $20. There will be 300-400 angels. Place the unwrapped gift under the tree with the angel taped to the gift. Clothing, not toys is suggested for the infants. Gift wrap day is December 19th from 1:00 o’clock to 3:30PM. The gifts will be delivered that day to the church. Families meet and get gifts the Saturday before Christmas. Big ticket items are given to families on a lottery system of one ticket per family. Shop now if you are an early shopper.    . These children come from poor families and appreciate everything we do. St. Stephens,   Camille Riggens filled in 100 gifts last year for us.  Share the angel information with family and friends.
A Chanukah table will be set up in the hallway also.
B.     Debbie Kassel: If you plan on running for office for the Women’s Club, please e-mail a letter of intent to Debbie Kassel moosrme@aol.com.  We will resume Cook’s Night Out on the second Monday of the month beginning in January.
VIII.          Open Discussion
A.     Diane Rosenfeld
Order Mah Jongg cards from Diane. Cards are $7 and $8 for large print. Make check payable to Diane Rosenfeld. Tell her the size, how many, your name and address and the cards will be mailed directly to you at the end of March or the beginning of April. Diane can be found in the clubhouse on Tuesday afternoons and Wednesday evenings.
B.     Fran Pine
There is a Nosh Fest on Sunday November4th from 11:30 AM to 4PM at Congregation Beth Shalom at 706 Bryan Road , Brandon 33511 .
C.     Marie Chandler
We should have a list of all fund raisers for next year and come up with a “pay it forward” plan to be supportive of our other clubs at Valencia Lakes. This will be discussed with the new board in January.
D.     Patty
Introduction  of new members.
IX.    Our 50/50 raffle came to $58. The winner received  $29. The meeting adjourned at 11:20 AM.

General Meeting Minutes September 29,2012

Minutes for September 29, 2012

The meeting was called to order at 10:50 am by Treas. Patty Hibsher.  Our Pres. Debby Cohen     could not attend due to a family commitment.

Minutes from last month’s meeting were accepted.


             Treasurer’s Report:  Patty Hibsher      
     As of 9-29-12 there is a balance of $9795.40 in our account. 
     As of now, Tribute Cards are making a profit.
     We paid $626.24 for Tee shirts for Walk for the Cure. 
     A $100.00 deposit was given to Victoria Grace Tea Room.

                   Membership Report:  Susan Linky
     As of today we have 105 members.  Seven new women attended our meeting.   
                  
             Old Business

                  Fund Raising Report:   Barbara Wax   
A.      Kudos to Marie Chandler and The Walk for the Cure Committee. They have done a fabulous job. So far they have raised $3,000.00. Pick up pledge sheets and start collecting.  Turn in sheets and money as soon as possible.  Marie Chandler and Arlene Donnellon have gotten many pledges.
B.       
 Marie Chandler:   There will be a kick-off dance the night before The Walk for the Cure in the Social Hall with a D.J.  Suggested donation at the door is $5.00.  BYOB and Snacks.  Soda & water will be provided.  We plan to have bagels and donuts for after The Walk. 

C.     Michelle Schaeffer:  If your employer matches charitable contributions, take advantage of  the opportunity

D.     Tribute Cards: Diane Rosenfeld- Each card is $5.00.  They can be for any occasion -    birthday, anniversary, graduation, sympathy, etc.  Send a card anywhere in the world.  Just call Diane (813) 938-5505 or you can purchase 10 cards for $45.00 and send them out yourself.


E.      Cookbooks- They will be sold at the New Residents Mixer tonight or at the Music &  Arts Fest.



   Social Activities Report:   Joy Rosen
A.      Tea at Victoria Grace Tea Room in Brandon on October 18 at 12:00 noon.  The fee is $28.00 per person.  Deadline for payment is October 10. A check made payable to Valencia Lakes West Women’s Club can be placed in the purple box on the Women’s Club table in the club house.

         New Business    
A.      Joy Rosen described the Holiday Reverse Grab Bag for the Holiday Luncheon.  Please spend between $20 and $25 dollars on a gift. Participation is voluntary.  The members voted to have the grab bag this year.

B.      Upcoming elections:  Each table had a copy of the six positions and a description of each. We have only received one letter of intent from Joy Rosen for Vice President of membership.  Patty Hibsher indicated that she would like to run for President & asked the members for support.  She also told the membership that holding an office can be enjoyable & rewarding & to please give it serious consideration. We are a social club.  We make friends and we raise money for charity.


             Open Discussion
A.         Should dues be paid at the first of the year or at the time you join?

B.         At the February 25th meeting, we voted on having the minutes from the previous meeting read online by the members instead of reading them at the meeting.  The new board will vote on whether the minutes should be read at the meeting.


                    Our 50/50 raffle came to $58.  The winner received $29.

Election of Officers 2012

To: All Members
As you know, this year is an election year for our Women’s Club. All members are eligible and are urged to run for the Board. There are six positions.
1) President
2) 1st Vice President (in charge of membership)
3) 2nd Vice President (in charge of social events)
4) 3rd Vice President (in charge of charities and fund raising)
5) Secretary
6) Treasurer
Please send your letter of intent to run for the Board and which position you are seeking by October 30, 2012 to our current Secretary, Debbie Kassel at 15718 Crystal Waters Drive or e-mail her at moosrme@aol.com
At our November 17th meeting, each applicant will introduce herself and give a short talk on her qualifications and why she wishes to serve on the Board. (Sort of like a campaign speech). We will also be taking nominations from the floor. Those members who accept a nomination will also have the opportunity to speak.
Ballots will be available on our Web Site after the November meeting, and for those of you who choose to vote in person, we will have paper ballots at the December 8th (holiday luncheon) meeting when the actual elections will take place.
Those nominees who receive the most votes will be the new Board.
Thank you all for volunteering to keep our Women’s Club a viable and vibrant organization striving to help others.

Minutes of General Meeting April 28, 2012

Minutes for April 28, 2012
Meeting convened at 10:50AM


I. Debbie Cohen acknowledged new members.

II. Minutes from last month’s meeting were read and accepted.

III. Treasurers’ Report: Patty Hibsher
As of 4-28 there are 106 paid members. There is a balance in the account of $17,895.63. $10,000 will be awarded for the scholarships on 5-19. $1,000 will pay for the Holiday Luncheon, $1,000 for the Fashion Show lunch. More fabric will be bought for Veteran’s quilts with donations from the Valencia Lakes Veterans and the Sun City Veterans.

We will need money for Walk for the Cure for deposits for signs and shirts. We will keep a balance of $2,500 for future expenses.

IV. Membership Report
Our membership is 106. Eighteen women attended a “New Member Brunch” on 3/22 at Sue Linky’s house. There was a suggestion that the New Member Brunch should include everyone so we can all meet the new members, not just the Board. Individual members will contribute food items.

V. Old Business
A. Joy Rosen: The Fashion Show is a week from Friday. We are using the same vendor as last year. There will be a 50/50 raffle and a raffle from the vendor for a free gift certificate. Lunch will be catered by the same people as the Holiday Luncheon. Sign up or E-mail by 5-3 at joyrosen@gmail.com or joyrosen@tampabay.rr.com . On 6-19 We will tour the Vinoy Hotel and on 7-26 we will visit the Victorian Grace Tea House.

B. Tribute Cards-Diane Rosenfeld and Penni Saperstone: Cards are $5.00 each or ten for $45.00. Order by calling Diane (813) 938-5505 or Penni (813) 938-1040. Pay first by dropping off the money and then the card will be sent out.

C. Cook Books-250 cook books left. They took two years to produce. They are $20.00 each. Grace Solow volunteered to store them.

VI. New Business
A. Quilting Club is selling pillowcases to make money for material for quilts for Veterans.

B. Arts and Music Festival- We will pay $30.00 for our table and sell cook books, pillow cases and Tribute Cards. We voted and agreed to get the table.
 
C. Election of officers for Women’s Club-Vote by e-mail when ballots are available on our web-site. If you want to be anonymous, print the ballot and put it in the Women’s Club suggestion box.

D. Walk for the Cure-Marie Chandler: We will be making money on registration, by selling signs, and getting pledges for teams. Marie will meet with volunteers for sponsorships and co-chair after today’s meeting we agreed that you can use last year’s sign. Pay the fee and use the sign. Signs can be placed on your lawn for one day only. Registration fee includes the cost of the tee shirt.

E. We voted to skip meetings in June, July and August. We will have lunch on June 30th at Circles Restaurant.

VII. Open Discussion
A. Members quit the Women’s Club because of payment of dues schedule. If you join near the end of the year, don’t pay and don’t vote. Pay $10.00 to come to the Holiday Luncheon. There will be membership applications at the Arts and Music Festival.

B. Patty wrote a letter to create publicity for our scholarship fund. We will try for newspaper and television coverage for the award day.

C. We discussed social issues about seating for functions, most immediately, for the Fashion Show. The plan is that you don’t come in without your tablemates and save seats. Come in together, sit down and don’t save seats. Anyone is welcome to sit in any empty seat. Joy will chair a committee to arrange seats for future events. Allison is the co-chair.

VIII. Our 50/50 came to $72.00 and the winner received $36.00. Meeting adjourned at 12:15.

We had a guest speaker, Rev. Susan K. Allen, informing us about meditation.
